"Hermann-Claasen-Preis für Fotografie und Medienkunst"
The Hermann-Claasen prize of photography and media art awarded by the Kreissparkasse Köln for the sixth time, has been given this year to Harald Fuchs. The works of the Cologne artist convinced the jury in terms of their aesthetic sensitivity, choice of theme and use of media. Harald Fuchs works build on an artistic photographic media while expanding at the same time space and frontiers by the use of projections and installations, thus creating a truly "moving" picture. Recognizably a multimedia artist, he is nevertheless deeply rooted in the photographic base of the single picture. His visual world broadly encompasses reality and perception of imagination, religion and science, which stimulates our own perception as it bridges the gap between fiction and reality. His "archeological searching movement" for finding the traces of our culture and civilisation at the same time represents a great artistic commitment to polemic topics of our time: Our relation to nature and its subjugation by man, our relation to a life which is dominated by technology and its own rules.
